CD Books
Most of our CD Books are facsimile reproductions of old, out-of-copyright books. The discs contain digitized, high resolution images of pages scanned from the original publications. These are then converted into PDF files which can be read using Adobe Acrobat Reader. Alternatively, we convert the scanned image into text by the Optical Character Recognition (OCR) process. This enables the full text to be searched via Adobe Acrobat Reader and is therefore very useful for historians and family history researchers. It also means that Adobe Acrobat software can read the text aloud, making it useful for people with a visual impairment or other disability.
We believe that all our CDs can be used on all home computers, including Macs. In fact, they can be viewed on any system that is compatible with Adobe Acrobat Reader. We currently use Acrobat v.6 to create our PDF files. They can be viewed using Acrobat Reader v. 8.
VISTA. We have tested our CD Books on a system that uses MS Windows Vista and have found no problems with compatibility.
